A Medialon movie star

AV integration company ETC has selected Medialon Manager to control the new 'Star of the Future' attraction at Futuroscope in Poitiers, France.

In a theme park dedicated to cinema, AV technologies and visual effects, Star of the Future lets visitors take a look inside a major film studio, discover the secrets behind special effects and take a film role.

Visitors are enrolled in an audition and then board two-seater pods and travel behind the scenes of eight film sets. They will understand the secret to creating images by first of all absorbing them, passing in front of the camera and then behind it so that they become viewers of their own production.

The 15-minute ride covers a 200m course over three floors. The auditions take place in casting rooms where an MPEG-2 camera network encodes visitors' acting attempts and transfers them to a server.

The audition files are captured on alpha channels so five Only-View systems can seamlessly insert them into pre-existing footage for a proposed movie called ?Savior of the Future.? Visitors get to see their auditions displayed on four projection screens and one giant plasma screen where they are integrated with numerous visual effects.

Medialon Manager controls the entire installation, with two WIFI terminals allowing a single laptop to encode the video, visual effects, lighting and MPEG-2 camera output without any wires or cables between the computer and the control room.

The company's show control software allows users to program, control and synchronize a limitless number of external devices such as audio, video, lighting, switchers, image processors and special effects.

Its programming environment enables the creation of scripted or interactive timelines that are easy to author and modify. Since Medialon system architecture is based on standard IP network topology, it can be implemented in a number of ways, using standard, off-the-shelf components.

It offers frame-accurate synchronization, DMX acquisition and editing, multitasking and permanent device position tracking.
